CHANEL LOOSE POWDER: MAC MSFN’S CLASSY OLDER SISTER

I love MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, but despite its best efforts, it doesn’t keep me shine-free for long during the Summer. Blot, blot, powder is not something I like to do a lot of. While searching for something that would last longer I whittled my loose powder wishlist down to Laura Mercier, Guerlain & Chanel. I chose Chanel, obviously – I’ve become a bit of a Chanel fangirl recently.

CHANEL NATURAL FINISH LOOSE POWDER 30 NATUREL

CHANEL NATURAL FINISH LOOSE POWDER 30 NATUREL CLOSE UP

Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder – 30 Naturel (30g/£31.50) is described as a “natural sheer matte finish” powder, that “through the inclusion of photo-reflective pigments” helps to “disguise fine lines and skin blemishes.” For me, it’s slightly matte, looks natural, yet it leaves a beautiful glow to the skin – very similar to MSFN. It feels much silkier than MSFN though, & gives a more brightened & luminous finish.

The jar is bulky (not something I’d carry around for touch ups) so after blotting during the day, I’ll apply a little MSFN if needed. I only have to blot once instead of 3-4 times with MSFN alone – quite the achievement for a combination/oily skinned girl + Summer!

CHANEL NATURAL FINISH LOOSE POWDER 30 NATUREL SIGMA TAPERED FACE F25

CHANEL NATURAL FINISH LOOSE POWDER 30 NATUREL SWATCH

I like to apply it with my Sigma F25 Tapered Face brush (my favourite brush so far for powder & bronzer, mostly because of the shape. I much prefer it to traditional paddle brushes.) I usually pat it lightly into the powder, swirl it in the lid & apply it all over my face after foundation & concealer. It doesn’t look cakey, it doesn’t feel heavy & although it looks very light against my skin when swatched heavily, it blends away into nothing. Because of this I don’t think it provides much, if any, coverage.

I wanted to see if I could capture the ‘photo-reflective pigments’, (tiny shimmer), so applied a few layers to my arm. If you look veryclosely & are looking for them, you can see a few. When applied on my face I don’t detect them but I do notice that my skin has the aforementioned glow to it. The powder has a slightly sweet, Soleil de Tan scent to it, but is much lighter – I love it, but I know not everyone would appreciate it.

The main thing I love is that it sets my make up but doesn’t make me look too matte. Other powders I’ve tried felt like a compromise – they didn’t give me the MSFN glow.

Overall, would I recommend it? Yes. I think that loose powder is often overlooked but it makes a hell of a difference to the overall look & lasting power of a made up face. Is it worth the price? Yes. Comparatively speaking, MAC MSFN (10g/£18.50) works out at £1.85 p/g, & Chanel at £1.05 p/g. Despite the initial higher cost, you’re getting a lot more for your money, & for me it works better especially during the Summer.

78) Continuing with my Chanel-fangirl-ness, I can’t wait to see the Topkapi eye shadow palette in person! Especially the taupe shade. & Rouge Blush. & Plumetis lipstick, Illusoire & Epatant Illusion d’Ombre..
